Special Crash Investigations (SCI) Program

CRA’s primary work for the Special Crash Investigations (SCI) program consists of conducting clinical investigations and crash reconstructions. These real-world crashes provide invaluable data to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and are used by numerous offices within the Agency to address its mandate of reducing the harm caused by traffic crashes on our nation’s roadways. Our investigations also aid the Agency in carrying out its duties to regulate the automotive industry in the United States. Crash Injury Research & Engineering Network (CIREN) Program

CRA’s role in the Crash Injury Research & Engineering Network (CIREN) program is to serve as the Quality Control center, where we are responsible for ensuring completeness, consistency, clarity, and compliance of coded data and supporting materials for CIREN investigations conducted by the program’s research centers.  The foremost component of the CIREN cases, and a focus of our quality control efforts, are the occupant injuries, AIS injury codes, and designation of injury sources (injury causation analysis and assignment of involved physical components).
